Brief history of Barangay Aquino

Barangay Aquino is humorously referred to as ‘’Barangay Balingbing’’ because for two times, its name changed depending on who was sitting as the president of the Republic of the Philippines. Originally, this Barangay was called ‘’ Barrio Bosikong’’ because of a giant tree that grew in the area which was named as ‘’Bosikong. “

 In the 1950’s, Barangay Aquino was a part of the neighboring barangays. The portion from the center of the concrete bridge down to the wooden bridge (south) was a sitio of Lorenzo Tan. From the center of the concrete bridge to the north concrete bridge was a sitio of Labuyo.  The was the very reason why the people did not want Barangay Aquino to stand as a distinct barangay.

In 1968, the people of the Barangay passed a resolution requesting the City Mayor him to allow this place to become an independent Barangay.  For the request of the people be granted, the city government through the City Mayor, forwarded the resolution to the President of the Philippines with his recommendation for an independent Barangay.  It was approved and the Barangay was named ‘’ Barangay Marcos’’ in honor of the incumbent President.

 In 1986 when President Corazon Aquino was the President was the President, the City Government through the City Mayor passed a resolution to change the name of the Barangay from Marcos to ‘’ Aquino’’ in honor of the present President.  The request was granted and from that time on until the present the Barangay is known as ‘’Aquino.’’
