Brief history of Barangay I - City Hall ( Poblacion)

Barangay Uno is located at the heart of Tangub City.  It was founded in 1968 under the time of Mayor Alfonso D. Tan.  There were only two existing puroks in the barangay, Purok 1 and Purok 2.

As the barangay is located at the heart of the city, its sense of history lies in its being the seat of the city government.  Other buildings that house the various offices of the city government are located in the area which extend to immediate barangays that compose the city hall complex.

Among the fifty-five (55) barangays, almost all of them were already given their own names Barangay Mantic, Barangy Migcanaway and others.  However, Barangay 1 is one of the unnamed barangays.  In view of this, the late City Mayor Alfonso D. Tan passed a resolution giving names to unnamed barangays starting from the Centro/Poblacion which is now called Barangay 1.  This is how the barangay got its name.

The early residents of Poblacion/Centro were Timoteo Engracia, the first Presidente (now called Mayor) of Tangub.  He was from Bohol.  Also, others from Bohol were the following: Hilarion Conol, Marciano Balatero, Vicenteco Paler and Jacinto Conol. Those from Sibonga, Cebu were the following: Julian Solis, Leon Sarita and Crispiniano Lapar.

The first barangay captain of Barangay I was Orlando B. Kaamino.  His councilors were: Alicia Jubay, Aurea R. Balatero, Anecita L. Solis, Henry Lorente, Nicolas Compra, Elena Cabrera (Treasurer), and Bobby Fuentes (Kabataang Barangay chairman).  All of them were appointed by Mayor Alfonso D. Tan.

The first group of teachers were Miguel Ferraren, Isabelo and Corazon Sultan, Dulcesimo and Juanita Manago, Eugenio and Olivia Diego, Corazon Agot, Emerenciana Teves, Eliza Diez and Cecilia Agnes.

The earliest structure put up in Poblacion (Barangay 1) were the municipal hall, the houses of Mr. and Mrs. Hilarion Conol, Sr.; Mr. and Mrs. Julian Solis, Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Conol, and Mr. and Mrs. Vicenteco Paler.

The first election of barangay officials was held on March 3, 1989. The late Alicia Jubay was elected barangay captain of Barangay 1.
