Barangay Bintana
Brief history of Barangay Bintana
The Subanens, a tribal group. people had inhabited this area for so many long years who cultivated the vast lands. In 1910, a group of settlers arrived at the area searching for greener pastures. They were from Bohol, Cebu and other provinces of Visayas and Mindanao.
This barangay was named "Bintana" because of the spring overlooking a vast area of the land and which people referred to as "Namintana." This spring supplied water to the entire barangay. When they were asked from where they fetched water and washed their clothes, they would answer “Bintana.”
In the early days, barangay Bintana was under Misamis now called Ozamiz City. Mr Timoteo Engracia was the mayor; the barangay captain was the late Juan Bagood. The World War I in 1941-44 greatly affected the peace and order of barangay Bintana. The Japanese reached this barrio however, no bloody encounter happened. There was only a strafing made by the Japanese soldiers at the house of Perfecto Legaspi but no one was hurt. However, the residents evacuated to other places
In 1960, water irrigation was started with the financial support of the provincial government of Misamis Occidental and Congressman Sambo. The water came from the spring of "Kapitoy" in Mr. Perfecto Legaspi’s land, who was president of the Association of the Barangay Council in Tangub. Because of his continuing support to the people, he was nominated as the outstanding ABC President and Exemplary Sangguniang Member of the Philippines in 1977. In 1983, the barangay received an appreciation of the Pilot Barangay in Tangub City under the supervision of Captain Pedro Canama.
