Brief history of Barangay Hoyohoy

In early 1930’s, Hoyohoy was still a forest and part of Barangay Banglay. People came here primarily to hunt and cut trees.  Later, they engaged in kaingin, tilled some of the areas and planted it with crops.

Some of the early settlers of Hoyohoy were Esyog Saberon, Modesto Carillo, Felix Berjame and Pilosopio Saberon.  In 1970’s and 1980’s, a number of families from Cebu and Negros migrated to Hoyohoy.

The late Daniel Mayordo   started to name the place Hoyohoy, shortcut for ‘hinoyohoy sa hangin’ (sound of the wind).

On June 19, 1982, the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Tangub passed resolutions creating the Barangays of Hoyohoy, Tugas, Sicot, Matugnao and Baluc. Finally through Batas Pambansa 337, Hoyohoy was created.
