Historical profile of Barangay San Apolinario

In 1960, Barangay Santa Cruz was one of the biggest barangays in Tangub.  To facilitate easier management, it was divided into two: Upper Santa Cruz and Lower Santa Cruz under.    This was the time of Mayor Alfonso D. Tan.

Later on, Lower Santa Cruz was formally created into a regular barangay in 1974 through P.D No. 86. The place being a bailiwick of Tan family the name of the barangay was changed into Apolinario, after one of the sons of the Lorenzo Tan Family. In keeping with the Catholic faith, the barangay was finally named San Apilonario. (Note: Upper Santa Cruz was reverted to its old name Santa Cruz).

The new barangay was managed by the designated Barrio lieutenant, Panciano Taclob appointed by Municipal Mayor Alfonso D. Tan.  In the early times, San Apolinario could be reached only by hiking from the town proper passing Barangay Malubog (now Barangay 5) or through a banca ride from Baybay Mantic (now Barangay Mantic) up to an area in the coastal part of Barangay San Apolinario where bancas used to dock anchor. It was difficult to construct roads before to connect coastal barangays because the area was marshy. People used to pass on trails difficulty.All barangay leaders who were given the opportunity to run and manage the barangay did their best to improve the economic and physical aspects of San Apolinario.

The incumbent Barangay Chairman Hon. Joe Jay R. Ocso, mobilized the barangay folks to build an elevated road going to the islet through the “Bayanihan” system. The spirit of volunteerism by the barangay residents was very alive with the able management of Hon. Ocso with the support of his barangay officials. The present administration has considered the needs of the barangay especially on the food sufficiency.
