Tangub City Hosts 46th DOPIM Clergy Convention

October 23, 2023 – Five bishops and more than two hundred fifty priests gathered in Tangub City for the 46th Dipolog, Ozamiz, Pagadian, Iligan and Marawi (DOPIM) Clergy Convention held on October 23-26, 2023 that carries the theme: “Pag-atiman sa Kinaiyahan: Hagit sa Tanan.”   This is the first time for Tangub City to host this event since hosting is rotated through the years.   The Bishops are the Most Reverend Martin S. Jumoad, D.D., Archbishop of Ozamis; the Most Reverend Severo Caermare, Bishop of Dipolog; Most Reverend Ronald I. Lunas, Bishop of Pagadian, Most Reverend Joey Rapadas III, Bishop of Iligan and Most Reverend Edwin dela Peña, Bishop of Marawi.

Mayor Ben Canama was very glad for this opportunity to host the convention. Firstly, their presence affirms the city’s mantra, “Una ang Ginuo,” which is also reflected in Tangub City’s vision.   Secondly, hosting the Convention, the Mayor further said, is like holding the Olympics which occurs every four years. Thirdly, the presence of the whole DOPIM clergy boosted the city’s image and tourism potential.  Lastly, the Mayor was so happy at what blessing for the City of Tangub to have the whole gathering intercede or pray for the City.   

The following is the convention’s schedule of activities in the next three days: October 23: Arrival and Registration, 1:00 – 5:00 PM; Holy Eucharist at St. Michael’s Parish to be celebrated by the Most Rev. Martin S. Jumoad, D.D. at 5:30-7:00 PM. Dinner will follow at 8:00 P.M.   and right after by the Welcome Program.

On October 24, 2023 (Tuesday), second day will be facilitated by the Diocese of Dipolog. The morning session tackle the Convention’s theme: “Pag-atiman sa Kinaiyahan: Hagit sa Tanan,” with Rev. Fr. Rey Raluto (from the Diocese of Bukidnon) as speaker, at the People’s gymnasium.  The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Severo Caermare, D.D. of the Diocese of Dipolog.   Sports activities will be held in the afternoon at Tangub City Global College.  In the evening, a sumptuous dinner awaits everyone which is sponsored by Hon.  Indy Oaminal, Mayor of Ozamiz City, who will also give his message.  The evening will be highlighted by a variety show and bonding with the live band. 

The October 25, 2023 (Wednesday) Balete tree planting at Barangay Hoyohoy in the early morning.   The fresh and invigorating landscape overlooked the panoramic Panguil Bay, with the long awaited Panguil Bay Bridge hoping to be finished at the first quarter of 2024. After the tree planting, the group returned to the city for the DOPIM Bishop’s time and open forum, followed by the business meeting.  The morning session ended with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Most. Rev. Ronald I. Lunas, D. D.

The last day of the Convention (October 25, 2023) Thursday will be facilitated by the Diocese of Iligan and Prelature of Marawi.   At 6:00 A. M., the Most Rev. Joey R. Rapadas, D.D. of the Diocese of Iligan will celebrate the Holy Eucharist.
