Brief history of Barangay Capalaran

          In 1920, there live Subanen group headed by TIMOAY in this Northern part of Tangub City. Subanen are known for being movable as they do not live permanently in a certain place. They kept in looking for a new place to develop which could give them good harvest. Hence, the left said place and a couple Pastor and Fabiana came and occupied it. The couple cultivated the place through “Kaingin” and planted corn, rice, coconut, and many root crops. The couple did have abundant harvest and this invited more people to come and cultivated almost one half of the vacant lots of the total land area. The barangay’s total land area is 370.9715 ha. And the principal source of living is Agriculture.


          The couple Pastor and Fabiana Ocampos was blessed with a beautiful daughter in 1926. The girl’s birth somehow happened during this great harvest. All the people rejoice so much because the baby’s birth brought them abundant harvest not only on farm plants but also with their live stocks like carabaos, goat and the like. Due to the marvelous blessings the child was Christianized and named “PALARAN” meaning “LUCKY”.
The place was legally registered by the Ocampos Family through Republic Act 2370 in 1959 and name it CAPALARAN, which was taken from the first daughter’s name Pastor and Fabiana. 


          The present population alive in Barangay Capalaran is 834 people and their principal source of living is agriculture for their growth and survival. The first learning Institution was situated at the residential house of the Ocampos Family. The first teacher was Mr. Isabelo Sultan. 


          The first barangay captain was Mr. Rufo Potestas followed by Mr. Necitas Cui and followd by Mrs. Patricia Dinopol who served for 19 years and finally followed by hon. Romeo Magante who served also for 13 years from (1994-2007). At present, the incumbent barangay captain is Hon. George Potestas who leads actively in the said barangay. 


           In the past main products that they have an abundantly harvest is rice. Marta Terez and Loisa Sayson invited of what food that they made coming from the rice but thanks to God they know on how bake “Bibingka” (rice cake) that served as merienda. It is called as “Bibingka Luisa.” It is delicious and it is affordable in the price of 10 pesos only. 


         At present people in barangay CAPALARAN continued celebrating the feats of St. Francis de Assisi during 4th day of October. It is once happen in every year that is why they celebrate a bongacious once and abundantly. According to them it is very momentous accassion that happen in their lives because they can invite more people to come for the purpose of “MAMISTA” and to join and to witness many events happen in   the said Barangay. 


        Barangay Capalaran is divided into two part of its hectares which is the lower part and the upper part. There is two religious also was made which is the PIC (Philippines Independent Church) and Roman Catholic. According to the “Balakag lahi ta ug relihiyon total ang atong gituhgo-an ay usa raman og mao ang Ginoo”. They loved and respect the privacy of one another in their beliefs and customs both PIC and Roman Catholic. Through this, Barangay Capalaran considered as the mediators for peace and progress.


         We are  proud the prominence of late Sperejun Ortez and rufo Potestas, hence, considered as an influential person of Capalaran. They taught “ Karate” to the children’s on how to fight and protect their selves.
Out of 834 people who lived in Barangay Capalaran Mrs. Irena Tagaan considered as oldest person alive in the age of 95. She was born on 1913. Honestly speaking even her age is too much old she can do recall of what she did in the past. 


          The Barangay acknowledge the prominence of late Marcelo Tano Sr. and late Onofre Potestas hence, considered them local heroes. They are called local heroes because of its attitude that they shared of what they have to those people who needs their helps.
