Brief history of Barangay Santo Niño

Barangay Santo Niño is situated near the foot of Mt. Malindang. It is bounded by the neighboring barangay of Bongabong in the East and Catagan in the West, Kimat in the South and Lumban in the North.

It has a land area of 247. 8689 hectares and it takes 30 minutes to travel from the highway. The distance from the barangay to the City Hall is 11.10 kilometers.

In 1970, majority of the residents of Sto Niño agreed to construct their own chapel since the chapel is located in the upper most area of Kimat, the mother barangay.

Through its unity and the initiative of barangay Captain Bartolome Nacion- a new chapel was constructed and the patron saints is Sr. Santo Niño.

Finally, in 1973 Sto Niño became a brangay under Republic Act No. 337. Hon Alfonso D. Tan appointed Marcelo Aswe as the barangay captain. Hon. Aswe had project too like electricity, barangay road and others.

After that the Sto Niño. Primary School was established through the effort of Herman B. Quiap – the first teacher in the area. He was asked to survey by Hon. Alfonso D. Tan if Sto Niño can stand as one school and it was realized.

The historians conducted their study in this barangay to know the cultural map of the place. Aside from that two members from the group came from Sto Niño. They grew and spent their childhood days here.
